DSWD assists survivors, grieving families
BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) gave financial assistance to the three survivors and to the families of the 17 casualties of the fire incident in Butuan City that gutted down NOVO store on May 9, 2012.
On May 12, 2012, DSWD together with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) DILG handed the financial assistance to the recipients. Secretary Jesse M. Robredo led the giving of financial assistance and was assisted by Mercedita P. Jabagat, social welfare director for the Caraga region and Honorable Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante, Jr. of Butuan City.
Each beneficiary received P15,000 from DSWD; P5,000 from DILG and P5,000 from the local government of Butuan City.
In a press conference held at the Butuan City office of Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, Secretary Robredo said that the national government will see to it that NOVO will also do their share in extending assistance to the victims. ### (Social Marketing Unit)
